Chiefs Announce Multiple Roster Transactions
January 10, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. -- The Spokane Chiefs announced on Monday multiple roster moves, including the reassignment or release of three players.
Forward Copeland Fricker (2003) and defenseman Ben Bonni (2004) have been officially reassigned but will remain on the club's 50-man protected list, eligible to play for the Chiefs as Affiliated Players. Forward James Form (2002) has been released.
"We have some some WHL roster deadlines coming up and expect to see a few players return from long-term injuries soon, causing a numbers crunch we needed to address," said General Manager Scott Carter. "These types of decisions are never easy and we thank all three players for their hard work."
WHL rules dictate that teams can have a maximum of 25 players on their active roster. Forwards Michael Cicek, Grady Lane and Reed Jacobson, as well as defenseman Mac Gross - all of whom were out with long-term injuries - are expected to return to game action soon. Pending injury recovery of those players, Fricker and Bonni are expected to report to Junior A clubs, with Fricker headed to Vernon (BCHL) and Bonni to Selkirk (BCHL).
The WHL Trade Deadline is on Monday, January 17 at 2 p.m. PT.
