Chiefs Announce Jackie Robinson Day Contest

Syracuse, NY - -The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are pleased to announce a special contest for Jackie Robinson Day. On April 15, 1947 Jackie Robinson became Major League Baseball's first African-American player when he made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Starting in 2004, Major League Baseball began honoring Jackie by deeming the date "Jackie Robinson Day." H is accomplishments have been celebrated in both Major League and Minor League ballparks across the United States since.

In preparation for Jackie Robinson Day, the Syracuse Chiefs are holding a "Draw Jackie In Action" contest that invites children ages 6-12 to draw their best Jackie Robinson action picture to be put on display at the ballpark during the game on Jackie Robinson Day on April 15 at 6:00 PM. Each student that submits an entry will receive one free ticket to attend the game to come see their work along with the other entries on display at NBT Bank Stadium.

Contest Guidelines:

Entrants are simply instructed to "Draw Jackie In Action" by creating an artistic piece that shows Jackie Robinson in action on the baseball field. All entries are due by Friday, March 22 and should include the artist's name, age, phone number, address, and affiliated youth group/school so they can be contacted regarding tickets to the game.

Prizes:

One prize winner per age will receive: One (1) free ticket to ANY Chiefs' game of their choice and a $5 food voucher at the ballpark.
