With a hat-trick from Javier Hernandez, LA Galaxy (2-0-0, 3 pts) won their home opener, 3-2, over the New York Red Bulls (0-2-0, 0 points) on Sunday at Dignity Health Sports Park.

New York begins with back-to-back regular-season losses to start a season for the first time since 2016. New York opens MLS regular-season play with back-to-back losses for just the sixth time in franchise history.

The Red Bulls dropped to 31-25 in one-goal matches since 2016. New York owns a 17-9 mark at home, while 13-14 in road matches and 1-1 in neutral games in one-goal games.

Galaxy's Javier Hernandez opened the scoring with a sliding goal at the far post in the ninth minute.

Brian White, from inside the 18-yard box, snuck a pass to Andrew Gutman, who slotted his first career MLS goal to the far post to even the game at the 26-minute mark.

Hernandez scored late in the first and then quickly in the second to complete the hat-trick and put the Galaxy up 3-1.

Following a foul, Sean Davis whipped in his free kick to the box for Amro Tarek, who backheeled the ball to himself and lofted the ball over the goalkeeper to give Cristian Casseres Jr. a header opportunity. Casseres Jr. converted the header to cut the Red Bulls deficit to one, 3-2, in the 63rd minute.

Gutman scored his first MLS regular-season goal, while Casseres Jr. tallied his sixth career MLS regular-season goal.

White tallied his third career MLS regular-season assist.

Newcomers Cameron Harper and Frankie Amaya made their Red Bull debuts with Harper making his first MLS appearance.
