October 3, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
Kevin Fiala's breakaway goal 1:50 into overtime lifted the Milwaukee Admirals past the Chicago Wolves 4-3 on Saturday night at Triphahn Center in Hoffman Estates.
The Wolves forced overtime with third-period goals by center Pat Cannone, right wing Zach O'Brien and defenseman Jordan Schmaltz. The latter came with 30 seconds left and Chicago playing with six skaters. Danny Kristo assisted on all three scores.
Milwaukee opened the scoring with 58 seconds left in the second period on David Moss' power-play goal.
The Wolves, who split their pair of exhibition games, answered with Cannone's power-play goal at 11:29 of the third period. Danny Kristo corralled the puck along the right boards and saucered a pass into the slot for Cannone, who slid a shot between goaltender Brandon Whitney's skates.
The tie lasted just 68 seconds as Milwaukee's Adam Payerl tipped home a shot at 12:37 of the third for a 2-1 edge. The Wolves rallied again as Zach O'Brien flipped home a shot at 14:38 with assists from Kristo and Cannone.
The Wolves pulled their goaltender to gain the man advantage in the final minute and Schmaltz made it pay off with a blast from the right point with 30 seconds left in regulation.
Pheonix Copley went the route in goal for the Wolves and stopped 18 of 22 shots. Milwaukee's Juuse Saros (11 saves) and Whitney (11 saves on 14 shots) shared time for Milwaukee.
Chicago opens the American Hockey League regular season on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. when Milwaukee comes to Rosemont for an Amtrak Rivalry battle. The team will celebrate the start of its 22nd season by throwing a free tailgate party from 2 to 6 p.m. in Allstate Arena's West Lot.
