
Chicago Steel Alumnus Luca Cunti Competing in Sochi Winter Olympic Games

BENSENVILLE, Ill. - Chicago Steel alumnus Luca Cunti is representing his native Switzerland in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games. Switzerland, which finished second in Group C, will face Latvia this Tuesday in a qualification playoff game, with the winner facing Canada in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Cunti was a member of the Steel during the 2007-08 season, where the left winger was an integral part of head coach Steve Poapst's squad that finished 32-22-6 during the regular season and eliminated the Indiana Ice in the first-round of the 2008 United States Hockey League Clark Cup Playoffs. In 34 regular season games that year, Cunti scored 11 goals and had 21 assists, before tallying five points (2g, 3a) in the playoff run.
A third-round draft pick, 75th overall, by the Tampa Bay Lighting in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Cunti is presently with the Zurich Lions of the Swiss National A League and has 42 points (18g, 24a) in 43 games.
