Chicago Sky Players Stand Tall in Off-Season

CHICAGO - The Chicago Sky WNBA team finished a successful second season in August, earning nine more wins in 2007 than in 2006, and narrowly missing the final Eastern Conference spot in the WNBA playoffs.

While many professional athletes use the off-season to relax, most of the Sky players will keep busy further developing their game by playing overseas or pursuing careers:

- Dominique Canty returned to Houston, Texas to relax before heading overseas to play in Gdynia, Poland for Lotos Gdynia.

- Kayte Christensen returned to Phoenix to spend time with friends and family, and give her two dogs more room to run around.

- Claire Coggins returned to Kansas State University to finish her degree in Electronic Journalism and will play overseas in the spring.

- Stacey Dales will be on the sidelines reporting for ESPN during the NCAA football and men's and women's basketball seasons.

- Candice Dupree returned to her hometown of Tampa to spend time with her family before heading overseas to play basketball in Krakow, Poland for Wista.

- Cathy Joens is planning her wedding to Patrick Engelbrecht on September 14 in her home state of California, and will then play basketball in Madrid for Rivas.

- Chasity Melvin has recovered from a late-season eye injury and leaves in mid-October to play in Ramla, Israel.

- Liz Moeggenberg is leaving in late September to play in Tarbes, France.

- Jia Perkins underwent successful post-season knee surgery and plans to play overseas in Israel.

- Armintie Price, the WNBA's Rookie of the Year, will leave in late September to play basketball in Russia.

- Stephanie Raymond returned to Northern Illinois University to finish her degree in K-12 Physical Education.

- Carla Thomas will travel to Arras, France to play for Asptt Arras.

- Brooke Wyckoff will return to Spain in early October to play, putting her fluent Spanish to use gain this year.

The Chicago Sky finished the 2007 season with a 14-20 record, Candice Dupree lead the team in scoring with 16.5 points per game and a spot on the Eastern Conference All-Star Team for the second consecutive year. Rookie Armintie Price made an immediate impact in her debut with the team and was named the WNBA's 2007 Rookie of the Year.

Head Coach and General Manager Bo Overton will look to build on the solid foundation established this season as he prepares for next season and the WNBA Draft, which will take place in the spring of 2008. The Sky will have a lottery pick in the draft, giving the team the opportunity to select from the next generation of elite women's basketball players, including Naperville native and University of Tennessee standout Candace Parker.

The Sky is the newest of 13 teams in the WNBA, the longest-running women's professional sports league in the world. The Sky celebrated it inaugural season in 2006. For more information, visit www.chicagosky.net.
