BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The Chicago Red Stars of Women's Professional Soccer announce today the mutual release of Sweden forward Kosovare Asllani.

Asllani wants to return to Sweden to play for Damallsvenskan organization Linkoping FC and prepare for upcoming 2011 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

"The ability to play a full fall season is the right step for me to best prepare for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers," Asllani said. "That being said, WPS is a great league and I have had a good experience with the Chicago Red Stars. I wish the club and my teammates the best of luck in their quest to clinch a playoff spot."

Asllani tallied two goals in 13 games during her 2010 season with the Red Stars. Asllani missed several matches because of either Sweden National Team duty or injuries. Asllani's first WPS goal came against FC Gold Pride as Chicago topped Bay Area, 1-0, on May 29 at Toyota Park. She also netted a goal during the Red Stars' 3-1 loss to the Boston Breakers on July 25.

The Red Stars (5-8-5, 20 points) wrap up their three-game road trip when they face first-place Gold Pride (12-3-2, 38 points) at 9 p.m. Saturday in Hayward, Calif. Chicago then returns home to host the Philadelphia Independence at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Toyota Park.

The Red Stars enter the weekend in a fourth-place tie with the Washington Freedom as they continue their push for a postseason berth.
