Chicago Red Stars Fall in Home Opener against Houston 1-2

Chicago, Ill. - The Chicago Red Stars dropped their first match at home against the Houston Dash by a score of 1-2.

KEY MOMENTS:

3' Houston gets an early break away and is able to convert to score the first goal of the game

14' Alyssa Naeher goes one on one against Ebony Salmon who gets in front of goal on a break and is able to make a stop to keep the score 0-1

18' Mallory Swanson's free kick from outside the left side of Houston's 18-yard box gets deflected by a Houston defender and into the net to tie the score 1-1

55' A foul by a Chicago defender in the team's 18-yard box on Diana Ordóñez is reviewed by officials on VAR and determined to be a penalty. Ordóñez converts the penalty and puts Houston up 1-2.

GAME NOTES:

Mallory Swanson was on a mission this afternoon at SeatGeek. The forward ranked first on the team in shots (4), chances created (4) and crosses attempted (16)

Alyssa Naehers stepped up multiple times for the team today. On a couple of occasions, Naeher was forced into a one-on-one battles, or instances where the keeper had to show quick reflexes. The experienced veteran that she is, the captain was able to step up and keep the score close.
