
Chicago Fire Take on San Jose Earthquakes in Midweek Clash

CHICAGO FIRE HEAD WEST TO FACE SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES, HOST TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR IN INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY AT TOYOTA PARK
The Chicago Fire (3-4-11, 20 points) continue a busy stretch of games when they take on the San Jose Earthquakes (4-8-5, 17 points) at Buck Shaw Stadium on Wednesday, July 23 at 9:30 p.m. CT (NBC Sports Network/La Ley 107.9 FM). Three days later the Men in Red host English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in a match presented by Target at Toyota Park on Saturday, July 26 at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN. Tickets for the match are available via Ticketmaster and www.Chicago-Fire.com.
Wednesday night's match is the first and only meeting between the two sides this season. The Earthquakes enter the match after earning a 1-1 road draw against the New York Red Bulls Saturday evening.
Prior to Saturday's international friendly, Tottenham will hold an open training session on the Toyota Park stadium field on Friday, July 25 at 4:30 p.m. CT. The training session is free and open to the public. Prior to the Spurs' training session, the Fire will train at 1:30 p.m. followed by a joint press conference at 3:30 p.m. with the head coach and a player from each side.
In the midst of a three-game American tour, the Spurs announced their travel roster which can be found here.
This is the fifth time that the Fire will welcome an English side to the Chicagoland area. The Men in Red are 2-2-0 in international friendlies against clubs from England, including Aston Villa, Manchester United, Everton and Derby County.
CHICAGO FIRE VS. SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES
- The Fire are 13-8-11 all-time in regular season matches against the San Jose Earthquakes.
- In matches played in the Bay Area, the Fire are 5-6-5.
- The Fire have outscored the Earthquakes 47 to 35 in the series. 12 of the Fire's goals have come in the final 15 minutes of the match.
- This match marks the sixth match across all competitions for the Men in Red this month. The Fire are undefeated thus far in July.
- The last time the Fire played in San Jose, Fire "Ëkeeper Sean Johnson tallied a career-high ten saves in a 1-1 draw on July 27, 2012.
- Wednesday's game marks the first time head coach Frank Yallop will lead the Fire against his former side. In his first season in charge of the Earthquakes, Yallop earned his first MLS Coach of the Year award when he led his side to the 2001 MLS Cup where they defeated the LA Galaxy 2-1. Yallop captured his second MLS Cup in 2003 with a 4-2 victory over the Fire at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. In 2012, Yallop earned his second MLS Coach of the Year award after the Earthquakes captured the MLS Supporters' Shield with a 19-6-9 record.
- Fire assistant coach CJ Brown spent his collegiate career at San Jose State University. Brown was selected first overall by the Fire in the 1998 MLS Supplemental Draft and made an immediate impact, appearing in 28 games during the club's inaugural season while helping the Fire to the domestic "double" winning that year's MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup titles.
- Forward Quincy Amarikwa was selected by Yallop and the San Jose Earthquakes in the third round (32nd overall) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft after a standout collegiate career at UC Davis. In his 2009 rookie season, Amarikwa scored one goal and added two assists in 24 appearances for the Earthquakes. Amarikwa was traded to the Colorado Rapids on April 7, 2010.
- The Fire acquired U.S. youth international Benji Joya in a weighted lottery on Feb. 5, 2014. A native of San Jose, Calif., Joya was a member of De Anza Force of the USSF Development Academy.
- Forward Matt Fondy hails from nearby Foster City, Calif. Acquired by the Fire on July 5, Fondy attended UC Santa Cruz and was named 2009 NSCAA Division III All-American before signing with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL PRO) on March 15, 2011.
CHICAGO FIRE SOCCER CLUB TO HOST FOURTH ANNUAL WHITE PARTY
The Chicago Fire Soccer Club is set to host the Fourth Annual White Party at the MCA Warehouse (1747 West Hubbard Street, Chicago, Ill.) on Thursday, August 7 from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. CT.
The White Party features guests in their most stylish white attire enjoying a premium open bar, food from various Chicagoland restaurants, a live DJ and more. The event also allows guests the opportunity to mingle with Fire players, coaches and staff members in a fun, unique setting.
A sell-out for the past two consecutive years, the White Party is the Chicago Fire Foundation's most prolific event. In 2013, tickets to the party sold out in record time as the event drew more than 700 guests and raised more than $50,000.
Tickets to the White Party begin at $60 for general admission and $80 for VIP admission, which includes an upgraded gift bag and access to the VIP lounge with exclusive food and bar options. All proceeds from the event will support the Chicago Fire Foundation's community efforts.
