CHICAGO, IL (June 1, 2009) - The Chicago Fire is participating in a series of community events across the Chicagoland area over the next week. Throughout the year, the Chicago Fire participates in hundreds of community events to work with area youth, charities and other organizations to promote the game of soccer by advocating wellness, healthy lifestyle choices, physical activities and education.
This week's events range from the Chicago Fire mascot, Sparky, collecting donations for the Salvation Army to a charity run and walk.
Schedule of Community Events
What: St. Dominic's Activity Day
When: Wednesday, June 3, 2009
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Where: 420 E. Briarcliff, Bolingbrook
Who: Chicago Fire mascot, Sparky, will be on hand to interact with 200 kids at the event at St. Dominic School.
What: Salvation Army Donut Day
When: Friday, June 5, 2009
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Where: James R. Thompson Center Plaza
Who: Help Sparky, along with other Chicagoland sports mascots, TAKE A BITE OUT OF HUNGER as they collect donations for the Salvation Army and aim to be the Army's official "Doing The Most Good" Top Mascot for 2009.
What: Girls on the Run 5K
When: Saturday, June 6, 2009
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Where: Montrose Harbor Beach House
4400 N. Lake Shore Dr., Chicago
Who: Sparky will be creating a buzz by taking photos with the participants at the 5K run benefiting the Girls on the Run-Chicago organization.
What: National Cancer Survivor's Day Celebration and Walk
When: Sunday, June 7, 2009
8:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Where: Grant Park, Chicago
Who: Sparky, along with other Chicagoland mascots, will be riding in an ambulance from Northwestern Memorial hospital to Grant Park and helping to kick-off the walk for over 4,000 people planning to attend the event.
What: Chicago Bandits Mascot Madness Day
When: Sunday, June 7, 2009
2:30 PM - 4:30 PM (3:05 game time)
Where: Judson University, Elgin
Who: Sparky, along with other Chicagoland sports mascots, will help cheer on the Chicago Bandits to victory in their game against the Philadelphia Force.
