Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (20-20-3-2) came up short in a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Wolves (25-15-5-1) at Allstate Arena Saturday evening. The Wolves controlled the pace of play in the first, outshooting the Moose 14-6 in the opening period. Eric Comrie held back the tide until the late stages of the frame when Tomas Hyka slipped into the offensive zone and snapped a shot by the Moose goaltender with 3:34 left in the period. The Moose got back on even footing under two minutes later as Marko Dano tucked in a rebound off the back-wall for a power play goal. Daniel Carr restored the Chicago lead 48 seconds later, finding a loose puck in front and pushing it to the back of the net as the Wolves took a 2-1 lead to the break.
Manitoba tied the game on a strange shorthanded goal 5:23 into the second. JC Lipon fired the puck down the ice, it ricocheted off the back-wall and into the net off goaltender Oscar Dansk. The Wolves pushed back in front in short order when Keegan Kolesar snapped a shot in off the post 2:30 after the Lipon goal. The two tallies went down as the only goals of the period with the Moose facing a 3-2 deficit heading to the third.
Chicago quickly added some insurance to get the period started as Zach Whitecloud put his wrister in off the crossbar for a 4-2 Wolves lead. Chicago added another tally with five minutes to go when Gage Quinney's centering feed redirected into the Moose net off a defender's skate to leave the final score at 5-2 for the Wolves.
