Chelsey Perry's Hometown Names Day in her Honor

November 18, 2021 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) - Indiana Fever News Release

When Chelsey Perry was selected 26th overall in the 2021 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, she made history as the first UT Martin player to be drafted in program history.

A product of Middleton, Tennessee, Perry has always spoken highly of her hometown and the community of people she considers family.

In a recent visit back home, family and friends gathered to celebrate as Hardeman County Mayor Jimmy Sain officially proclaimed November 6th as 'Chelsey Perry Day'.

"It was phenomenal to go home, see people that I haven't seen in a long time and to feel their love and support especially since they have been with me through the years," Perry replied with a bright smile.

"It pushes me to want to do more to get better and become well-known in the WNBA, just so I can show and tell others about Middleton, Tennessee."

In her junior and senior year of high school, Perry, a Middleton High School alumna, averaged a double-double in points and rebounds. By the time she graduated, she had become a member of the program's 1,000-point club and a two-time TSWA Class A all-state honoree.

She would keep her talents close to home at UT Martin where she would go onto become the program's all-time leader with 228 career blocks, third all-time in scoring with 1,963 points, fourth in career field goals made with 733, fourth with 768 career rebounds and tied for fifth with Pat Summit for career free throws made with 368.

Although her first season as a pro was a cut short after she tore her ACL in early August, the 6-foot-2 forward underwent successful surgery and began her rehab process to get back on the court.

"It's day by day," Perry said about her rebab process "but I'm getting better, getting stronger and ready to keep working."
