Cheetahs Open Season With a Bang

CRESTWOOD, IL (Wednesday, May 29, 2002) – The Cheetahs find themselves off to a winning start by opening the 2002 campaign with a 2-1 victory over the Evansville Otters. The Cheetahs had their two runs come by means of home runs by Dana Forsberg and Brandon Pollard. "I caught a fast ball that was in my zone," said Forsberg who went 3 for 4 for the night. Pollard went yard in the third inning and Forsberg in the fourth.

Starting pitcher Brian Houdek went six innings with eight strikeouts, giving up only one hit. "I didn't do it all by myself out their, we did it as a team", said Houdek. "I had a great catcher (Ron Galvan) calling a good game for me". Houdek went six innings because his pitch count reached his max. "Houdek threw the ball well", said manager Chad Epperson. "We have all the pitchers at a pitch count this early in the season". The Cheetahs will start one of its local contingent tomorrow, as Joliet native Kevin Sadowski takes the mound for game two for the Cheetahs.

The Cheetahs continue their 2002 campaign in game two of three against the Otters Thursday at 6:05pm (CST) at Hawkinson Ford Field. The series continues Friday at 6:05 before its first road series in Rockford on June 1.
