CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Checkers announced today they have agreed to terms with forward Matthew Ford and defenseman Dan McGoff.

Ford, 6-foot-1, 207-pounds was selected in the 8th round of the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. He spent the last four seasons playing for the University of Wisconsin where he totaled 21 goals, 18 assists for 38 points in 124 games.

The West Hills, Calif. native also collected 100 penalty minutes during his four seasons with the Badgers and said he is excited about being in the Charlotte community. "I've had the chance to visit Charlotte in the past and it's a tremendous city with great people and I look forward to starting my pro career there."

McGoff hails from Winchester, Mass. and has played four seasons for Boston University. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound defenseman suited up for 94 games during his collegiate career and totaled five goals, five assists for 10 points with 48 penalty minutes.

"I can't wait to be playing again. I didn't want hockey to end after college so I am looking forward to starting my professional career and trying to move up the ranks and one day play in the NHL," remarked McGoff.

In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
