The Gladiators struck on the power play for the first tally of the game when defenseman Jeff Mason blasted a shot that deflected past Checkers netminder Chris Holt at 6:53. Gwinnett would strike again on a rebound off a Jeff Campbell shot went to the stick of Jim Jackson who sent it past a sprawling Holt at 15:49.
The Checkers got a late goal from Lee Falardeau as his shot bobbled out of the catching glove of Gladiators goalie, Dan Turple at 14:52. Despite the late surge by Charlotte, they were unable to score another goal and the series went to Gwinnett, three games to zero.
