Checkers Season Ends At Hands Of Gladiators

Gwinnett, GA.-The Charlotte Checkers were defeated tonight by a score of 2-1 resulting in a three game sweep at the hands of the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Neither team was able to muster a goal in the first period but that changed during the middle frame. The Gladiators struck on the power play for the first tally of the game when defenseman Jeff Mason blasted a shot that deflected past Checkers netminder Chris Holt at 6:53. Gwinnett would strike again on a rebound off a Jeff Campbell shot went to the stick of Jim Jackson who sent it past a sprawling Holt at 15:49.

The Checkers got a late goal from Lee Falardeau as his shot bobbled out of the catching glove of Gladiators goalie, Dan Turple at 14:52. Despite the late surge by Charlotte, they were unable to score another goal and the series went to Gwinnett, three games to zero.

The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date.
