Checkers Recall Shugg from Florida

CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Jeff Daniels announced today the team has recalled rookie forward Justin Shugg from its ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades.

Shugg, 19, was named ECHL Player of the Week Tuesday after recording six points (3g, 3a) in three games last week. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native currently ranks tied for second in ECHL scoring with eight points (3g, 5a) in five games.

Shugg was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and was signed to a three-year entry-level contract on June 16, 2011. He attended Checkers training camp and was assigned to Florida on Oct. 6.

The Checkers embark Friday on a nine-game road swing before returning to host the Rockford IceHogs Friday, Nov. 18 at Time Warner Cable Arena. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com or the Time Warner Cable Arena box office.
