Checkers Recall Goaltender Muse from Florida

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - With Mike Murphy called up to the Carolina Hurricanes Monday, Charlotte Checkers head coach and general manager Jeff Daniels announced today the team has recalled goaltender John Muse from its ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades.

Muse, 23, has appeared in 10 games with the Everblades this season, posting a 5-3-2 record with a 2.28 goals against average and .928 save percentage. Muse was recalled by the Checkers Oct. 22, backed up for four games and was re-assigned to Florida on Nov. 2.

The Massachusetts native led the Boston College Eagles to NCAA National Championships in 2008 and 2010 and was signed by the Checkers to an American Hockey League contract on Jul. 18, 2011.

In a separate transaction today, the Checkers and forward Mike McKenzie have agreed upon a mutual release from his standard player's contract.

The Checkers will embark on a two-game trip to face the Texas Stars and San Antonio Rampage this weekend before returning Thursday, Dec. 15 to host the Chicago Wolves. For ticket and promotional information, please visit www.gocheckers.com.
