Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Checkers' ninth annual Pink in the Rink weekend, presented by Novant Health, will take place Friday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 8, as the team hosts the Chicago Wolves.

The goal of the weekend's games, both of which begin at 7 p.m., is to raise awareness and funds for the fight against women's related cancers, specifically breast cancer. Last season's event raised approximately $45,000 for various non-profits.

New this season, the Checkers will hold two live auctions, one after each game, in which parts of the specialty pink uniforms the team will wear throughout the weekend will be sold to benefit Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center, Cindy's Hope Chest, Carolina Breast Friends, Go Jen Go and Pretty in Pink.

Friday's auction will feature the unique pink helmets worn by the Checkers, who will be the first team in the history of the American Hockey League to feature them as part of a Pink in the Rink event. The traditional pink jersey auction will take place immediately following Saturday's game.

Other events include the recognition of non-profit beneficiaries and cancer survivors throughout the weekend, including the annual Survivor's Dance with the CheckMates on Saturday. Giveaway items include pink color-changing cups to all in attendance courtesy of Autobell on Friday and pink gloves to the first 2,500 fans courtesy of Novant Health on Saturday.
