Grand Rapids' Jared Coreau Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Grand Rapids Griffins goaltender Jared Coreau has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 1, 2015.
Coreau turned aside all 66 shots he faced in two road starts for the Griffins last week, becoming the first Grand Rapids goaltender in six years to earn shutouts in consecutive games.
The Griffins returned from the All-Star break on Thursday night and Coreau made 38 saves to backstop the club to a 6-0 win at Iowa. Then on Friday, Coreau stopped 28 shots and was named the game's first star as Grand Rapids blanked Milwaukee, 3-0. Coreau's current shutout streak of 140:32 is less than 14 minutes shy of the Griffins franchise record.
A second-year pro from Perth, Ont., Coreau owns a record of 9-6-1 for Grand Rapids this season, ranking eighth in the AHL with a 2.07 goals-against average and sixth with a .930 save percentage while registering three shutouts in 16 appearances. The 23-year-old Coreau spent three seasons at Northern Michigan University before signing as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings on Apr. 3, 2013.
In recognition of his achievement, Coreau will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Griffins home game.
