Checkers Agree To Terms With Neil Poulsen

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - General manager and head coach of the Checkers, Derek Wilkinson, announced today that forward, Neil Poulsen, has agreed to terms with the club.

Poulsen, born in Brockville, Ontario, will be entering his first season in professional hockey after playing four seasons at Queen's University in Canada. The rugged 6-foot-3, 235-pound forward played 54 collegiate games and garnered three goals and four assists and 54 penalty minutes.

"I am really looking forward to contributing," said an excited Poulsen, "This is a great opportunity and I am thrilled to find out what it's like to be a pro. I want to win games, get better and move up."

Wilkinson says Poulsen will join the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack for training camp before joining the Checkers.

The Checkers enter their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL in October 2007. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
