CHARLOTTE, NC-The Charlotte Checkers have agreed to terms with two-time ECHL All-Star Tyler Doig, general manager and head coach Derek Wilkinson announced on Thursday.

Doig, 23, skated last season with the Reading Royals, leading the team in assists (41) and points (59), while racking up 94 penalty minutes. The feisty playmaker also earned his second-consecutive ECHL All-Star selection, along with then-teammate and current Checkers defenseman Steve Ward. He appeared in five games for the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies amassing 16 penalty pinutes.

In his rookie season in 2007-08, the 6-foot, 190-pound native of Seaforth, Ontario split time between the Toronto Marlies (AHL) and Columbia Inferno. He notched seven goals and 22 assists in 38 games with Columbia under former Checkers associate coach Troy Mann, while adding seven points in 13 playoff games. In 24 games with the Marlies, the winger tallied four goals and four assists and posted a respectable +10 rating.

"Tyler has established himself as a terrific ECHL player," Wilkinson said. "We look forward to seeing him continue to excel at our level as well as helping him achieve his goal of playing at a higher level."

Before joining the professional ranks, Doig enjoyed a productive junior career in the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts, Guelph Storm and Belleville Bulls. In 196 career OHL games, he collected 70 goals, 100 assists and 201 penalty minutes over three full seasons.

The Checkers are getting ready for their 17th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 16-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 12 times including five consecutive playoff appearances to date.
