Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Daniel Poncedeleon's strong outing paced Memphis to their first win of the series, as the Redbirds defeated the Storm Chasers 4-2 on Friday night at AutoZone Park.
Omaha struck first in the top of the 2nd. Paulo Orlando lashed a 2-out single, stole 2nd, and scored on a single by Cam Gallagher to put Omaha ahead 1-0.
Memphis responded in the bottom of the 2nd. Carson Kelly singled, Randy Arozarena doubled, and Max Schrock drove home Kelly with an RBI groundout. Wilfredo Tovar then gave the Redbirds a 2-1 lead with a single, plating Arozarena.
Memphis made it 3-1 in the bottom of the 3rd, as Oscar Mercado singled, stole 2nd, and scored on a base hit by Carson Kelly.
Eric Stout (L, 2-3) went 2.2 innings in a spot-start for Omaha; he was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits, with 3 strikeouts and no walks.
Adolis Garcia launched a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the 5th inning against Luis Vasquez , making it 4-1 Memphis. Vasquez turned in a strong relief performance, allowing just 1 run over 4.1 frames. Michael Mariot held Memphis off the board in the bottom of the 8th.
Daniel Poncedeleon (W, 8-3), however, held the Chasers to 1 run on 2 hits over 6 innings. He struck out 7 and walked 3.
Matt Bowman, Tyler Lyons, and Andrew Morales (S, 2) each threw single innings to close out the win for the Redbirds, snapping Omaha's 2-game winning run. Jack Lopez did pull the Chasers to within 4-2 with his 3rd home run of the season in the 9th.
The Storm Chasers (40-46) will continue the series in Memphis tomorrow night at 6:35. Omaha will send LHP Jake Kalish (3-2, 2.63) to the mound , while the Redbirds will counter with RHP Chris Ellis (1-0, 4.26).
