CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Today, members from the Charlotte Independence Professional Team and the Charlotte Independence Soccer Club donated toys to the kids at Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital. The toys were collected as part of the youth club's annual Goalkeeper Wars which receives hundreds of unwrapped, new toys each year for kids in need.

"Today was very humbling and emotional to be able to visit Hemby and bring some toys to the kids there that are going through some tough times," stated Charlotte Independence Goalkeeper, #1 Austin Pack. "Hopefully the soccer balls and toys can bring them some moments of joy during their time in the hospital."

Some of the donations will be used by Novant Health's Child Life Specialists who play an integral part in working to reduce stress and trauma in clinical settings for children and their families. Others will be gifted directly to kids to help celebrate all occasions, including holidays, birthdays, "brave" gifts following a medical procedure, and so much more.

"We are thankful for our partnership with the Charlotte Independence Soccer club and appreciate the generosity of the club families," said Saad Ehtisham, president of Presbyterian Medical Center and the Novant Health greater Charlotte market. "During a time where special visits and programming is limited for our patients, special gifts like donated toys are extremely appreciated. These gifts help brighten up the children's days, providing entertainment and smiles during their hospital stay."
