
Charlotte Independence Concede Four Goals in Loss to Asheville City SC

Asheville, N.C. - The Charlotte Independence USL W League team conceded four goals Saturday night in a loss to Asheville City SC. The Independence women are back on the road this Tuesday, June 6 taking on Greenville Liberty SC at Furman Paladin Stadium. First kick is set for 7:00 p.m.
It was a rainy evening in Asheville, North Carolina as the Charlotte Independence were on the road taking on Asheville City SC for the first time this season. The Independence were hoping to extend their win streak to three games after defeating Greenville Liberty SC and FC Carolinas the previous week. On the other end, Asheville City SC were looking to get back on track after losing two straight games.
Early in the first half, Asheville's #6 Addie Porter sent a cross into the box, but it was headed away quickly by the Charlotte defense.
In the 14th minute, Charlotte's #14 Caroline Peters sent a low ball into the box that was stood up by the Asheville defense.
In the 33rd minute, Asheville's #9 Jackie Barnes scored off of a cross. She was assisted by Porte who sent a ball into the box. Barnes had to battle for the ball, but eventually wound up finding the back of the net.
Half: Asheville City SC 1 - Charlotte Independence 0
Asheville opened the second half on the front foot and scored their second goal in the 47th minute. Asheville's Porter scored this time on a right footed near post finish that put the Blues up 2-0.
In the 55th minute, Asheville's Porter scored off of a low-ball cross sent in by #22 Parker Roberts. Roberts found Porter who hit a left footer into the back of the net to put Asheville up 3-0.
In the 76th minute, Charlotte looked to put a point on the board with a free kick that was sent into the 18 yard box, but the Independence were unable to convert.
Charlotte looked to attack again in the 77th minute with a corner kick. Asheville defended it cleanly and kicked the ball up, out and back down the pitch.
In the 79th minute, Asheville earned a corner kick. They placed the service inside the 18 yard box. It was finished by #11 Lindsey Cook who reeled in the corner and put it into the back of the net, putting the Blues up 4-0.
