Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER -- Art Charles drove in three runs Monday night to help the Threshers to a 4-3 win in game two against the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Charles finished 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI's and a run. He got Clearwater (13-17) on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-out single that drove in Roman Quinn.

Jordan Guth earned the win for the Threshers tossing six innings and allowing a run on five hits, while striking six and not issuing a walk. The only run that Guth (2-3) surrendered was a solo homer to Stone Crabs' catcher Justin O'Conner in the second inning.

The score remained tied at one until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Threshers busted out for three runs, all coming with two outs. With J.P. Crawford and Carlos Ruiz on base, Charles drove a triple into deep centerfield scoring both runners and giving the Threshers a 3-1 lead.

Brian Pointer followed that up with an RBI single past the first baseman Patrick Leonard that scored Charles and put Clearwater up by three.

After Charlotte put up two runs off of Threshers' reliever Ulises Joaquin on a two-run single by Leonard, Cody Forysthe came in and inherited runners at first and second with just one out.

Forsythe threw just one pitch in the frame and induced a 5-4-3 double-play off the bat of O'Conner to keep the Threshers in the lead.

The Southern Illinois product came back out for the ninth and shut the door on Charlotte to earn his first save in a Clearwater uniform.

Game three of the four game series is set for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday from Bright House Field. Colin Kleven will look to extend his streak of starts of at least five innings to 14 as he toes the rubber against Austin Pruitt for the Stone Crabs. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on threshersbaseball.com
