Charge Come up Short in Long Island

UNIONDALE, NY - The Canton Charge (17-25), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, fell on the road to the Long Island Nets (27-14), 106-102, at the NYCB Live Coliseum on Monday night.

Canton's Malik Newman scored 23 of his 30 points in the second half, hitting 11-of-17 shots from the field overall and 4-of-7 from three-point range in 26 minutes off the bench. Cavaliers Two-Way Players Jaron Blossomgame and Deng Adel each contributed 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in tonight's effort. Scoochie Smith scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds and nabbed three steals in 33 minutes. JaCorey Williams added 11 points and six boards.

Alan Williams led the six Nets players in double figures by scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds in 28 minutes. Dzanan Musa scored 17 points off the bench on 5-of-9 three-pointers in 31 minutes. Mitch Creek netted 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes.

Trailing just 51-48 at the half, Canton was outscored 26-16 in the third quarter and held to 7-of-23 from the field as a team (30%). Long Island led for the whole third period and finished on a 10-2 run to pull ahead for their largest advantage of the game at 77-64.

The Charge trailed by double digits for the start of the fourth until trailing 95-84, the visitors chipped away with a 14-4 run to pull within one at 99-98 after an Adel three-point play. Jordan McLaughlin hit a driving layup on the ensuing Long Island possession to keep Canton at bay. A Charge miss followed by a Musa's final three-pointer of the game would give the Nets enough to hold on for their first win in three tries against Canton this season.

The Charge are back home for a pair for afternoon games this weekend starting with a visit from the Wisconsin Herd on Saturday, March 9th at 1:00 p.m. (TV: Facebook Live; RADIO: 99.7 FM).
