Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters have added a new member to their coaching staff, announcing the addition of Stephen Malcolm. Malcolm will fill the role previously held by Brandon Hohl, who has accepted a position with an advanced scouting service in Florida that begins immediately.

"The Rafters would like to thank Brandon for his four years in Wisconsin Rapids as both a player and coach and wish him all the best in his future endeavors," said Rafters general manager John Fanta.

Stephen Malcolm comes to the Rafters after finishing his first season as an assistant coach at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA. With the Mustangs he worked primarily with the infielders, and coached first base and base running. Malcolm played shortstop for the Mustangs in 2010. He accepted a scholarship to Virginia Tech University following the conclusion of that season but instead chose to sign a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies after being drafted in the 8th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft. He played in their organization from 2010-2013. Malcolm is a native of Lodi, California.

Field Manager Craig Noto on Malcolm: "Stephen is going to be a great addition to our staff. He has been under Head Coach Reed Peters as both a player and assistant coach at San Joaquin Delta College in California. He was an accomplished player and 8th round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies. He played six years of professional baseball and brings a wealth of knowledge and energy to the field on a daily basis. His desire to make players better is a perfect fit for our coaching staff's philosophy and our players will greatly benefit from having him around."
