Champions Take Rain-Shortened Game in Quebec

OTTAWA - It was the elements, rather than the Quebec Capitales hurlers who silenced the Ottawa Champions bats on Wednesday evening, as Ottawa took a rain-shortened 7-1 affair at Stade Canac in Quebec City.

The game was called with the top of the sixth in progress, but only the first five full innings of the game will count.

RHP Austin Chrismon turned in a solid performance, giving up a single run over the five innings. Chrismon hasn't received much run support from his offence this season (hence his 4-8 record), but the bats gave him plenty of help on Wednesday.

The Champions got on the board early and often, scoring runs in three of the five innings that were played. A double by RF Steve Brown drove in two in the first, giving Ottawa an early lead.

In the second, DH Sebastien Boucher grounded into what could have been the inning-ending double play, but an error allowed both 2B Michael Hungate and CF Chase Harris to score.

LF Coco Johnson blasted his fifth home run of the season in the fifth and final inning. The two-run shot came one at-bat after C Zak Colby was awarded home on a balk call.

Capitales starter LHP Brett Lee lasted four innings, giving up four runs. LHP Will Dennis didn't fare much better - he pitched the fifth, giving up the Johnson home run.

Ottawa took two-out-of-three games in Quebec City and will now travel to Trois-Rivières for a four-game series with the Aigles getting underway tomorrow, Thursday, July 26 at 7:05 p.m. Ottawa returns to RCGT Park on Tuesday, July 31 to face the New Jersey Jackals.
