Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - The Rockland Boulders rode a solid start from RHP Brian Ernst en route to a series split. The gem from the right-hander gave them a shutout victory, defeating the Ottawa Champions 6-0 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at RCGT Park.
Ernst left the Champions looking for answers in the first half of the game, and it continued when Rockland manager Jamie Keefe went to the bullpen. The Champions only mustered four hits and five base runners off the Boulders pitching staff.
"I have to tip my cap to their pitcher," said Champions manager Hal Lanier about Ernst's performance. "We had one man on second base, and I guess that was about it. And we only got four hits."
Lanier says his team will have to turn the page quickly, and intends on winning in Sussex County this week.
Ernst finished the game allowing all four Champions knocks, with no runs or walks. He struck out three batters in the process. Both RHP Nick Kennedy and RHP Tommy Lawrence didn't allow a base hit in relief.
Ottawa starter RHP Jake Hale threw seven innings in his outing, resulting in his seventh loss of the 2018 campaign. He allowed six Boulders runs - albeit just three of them were earned.
The Champions now hit the road for 11 days, beginning with a series against Sussex County Monday night at Skylands Stadium. All games can be watched on www.canamleague.tv.
Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
