OTTAWA - The Ottawa Champions fell to the Sussex County Miners on Saturday night by a score of 4-2 at RCGT Park in Ottawa.

"We made a couple of mistakes defensively. We made two errors that cost us two runs," said manager Hal Lanier. "I thought Alvarez did a good job. Offensively we hit some balls hard, but they just wouldn't fall in."

RHP Edilson Alvarez took the bump for Ottawa and was handed the loss despite a good performance. Alvarez pitched into the eighth inning, giving up four runs of which only two were earned.

The Champions offence came to life in the fourth inning as RF Steve Brown took RHP Cory Jones for a ride to left field. It was Brown's ninth homer of the season and his second in as many games. DH Sebastien Boucher also scored on the play to give Ottawa a 2-1 lead.

That would be all the offence for Ottawa however, as they were held to only five hits. The Miners tied the game in the sixth and went ahead for good in the eighth.

CF Jayce Ray had a good day for the Miners, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run. C Carlos Correa also went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Champions and Miners will wrap up their three-game series tomorrow, Sunday, August 5 at 1:35 p.m. Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
