Champions Fall 2-1 to Trois-Rivieres

Ottawa Champions News Release
A late-inning surge from the Trois-Rivières Aigles proved to be too much for the Ottawa Champions on Saturday afternoon at the Stade Fernand-Bedard, as Ottawa reliever Drew Cisco was charged with the loss in a 2-1 decision.
"I thought we did a lot of things positively, especially the pitching," said Champs manager Hal Lanier. "I thought (Andrew) Werner threw excellent, really the whole pitching staff that came in threw the ball well."
Willie Carmona went deep in the fourth inning for the Champions, who were held hitless in the final four innings by Trois-Rivières' relief corps.
"You always want to start off great," said Carmona, who had Ottawa's best individual day at the plate on Saturday, going 1-for-2 with two walks. "You just want to hit the ball well, and be consistent."
The first few innings flew by, with Ottawa ace Andrew Werner and Trois-Rivières starter Edilson Alvarez taking care of business in the opening two innings. Wilmer Font took the mound for the third and fourth innings for the Champs, picking up where Werner left off, stifling the Aigles' bats.
Alvarez's start hit choppy waters in the top of the 4th, when Ottawa third baseman Willie Carmona went deep to right to give the Champs a 1-0 lead.
The game continued to cruise along at a quick pace, with Champs reliever Drew Granier putting in two quality innings of scoreless work.
Ottawa reliever Drew Cisco ran into unfortunate luck in the bottom of the 7th, giving up two infield singles and a walk to start the inning. But the righty limited the damage, turning a bases-loaded, nobody-out situation into a one-run inning.
Cisco would then be tagged for the loss in the bottom of the eighth, giving up a hard double down the right field line to Aigles' centrefielder Steve Brown, which plated the eventual winning run in Jose Cuevas.
Reliever Jeff Lorick got the win for Trois-Rivières, while Alex Kreis picked up the save.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park in Ottawa. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 PM, with Jack Wagoner expected to start for the Champions.
Spring Training continues to May 20th and then Opening Night is May 22nd at 7:05 pm against the Sussex County Miners at RCGT Park.
