Champions Dominated by Capitales Bats En Route to 9-2 Blowout

OTTAWA - Jordan Caillouet hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the ninth but it was too little too late for the Ottawa Champions, as they lost their third straight game to the Québec Capitales.

Québec scored nine runs on 15 hits, five of which came in the fifth inning alone.

Austin Chrismon had a forgettable outing, walking two and allowing six earned runs on 10 hits with one strikeout over just 4 2/3 innings.

New Champions pitcher C.J. Schildt took over for Chrismon in the fifth after Chrismon allowed two more runs to make it 6-0. Schildt threw four straight balls to the first batter he faced with the bases loaded to walk in a run to put Québec up 7-0.

"I just had to settle down after the first batter and calm my nerves," said Schildt. "After that it was just a game I've been playing my whole life."

Schildt was signed by the Champions earlier in the day and was tossed into an undesirable situation.

"I definitely had to make a quick adjustment," he said. "But we're baseball players, we do whatever we have to do to play the game we love and sometimes we have to adjust on the fly."

The Capitales scored four runs in the top of the fourth off RBIs from Stayler Hernandez and Yordan Manduley. Manduley hit a double to right that scored Hernandez and Michael Baca.

Chris Shaw opened the scoring for Québec with a slow bouncer to short that scored David Salgueiro and didn't get to Maikol Gonzalez in time for him to make the throw.

The Champions wrap up the series with the Capitales tomorrow at RCGT Park at 1:30 p.m.
