Ottawa Champions News Release
Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Champions have added some depth to the bullpen by agreeing to terms with RHP Tyler Wilson.
The 25-year-old began the season in the Sussex County Miners' rotation, where he went 1-1 with a 12.27 ERA, but Champions' manager Hal Lanier believes he's better suited to a bullpen role.
"We think that he's really going to be able to help us in the middle innings as a long man," says Lanier. "He threw a bullpen for [pitching coach] Billy [Horn] and I and we both liked what we saw."
Wilson spent the last two seasons with the Trois Rivieres Aigles before signing with Sussex County in the offseason.
He was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 13th round in 2008 and spent four seasons in their system, making it as high as Single-A Greenville.
Wilson will take the roster spot of 3B Willie Carmona, who was placed on the inactive list last week.
The Ottawa Champions return home to Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park on Tuesday for a 12 game, 16 day homestand, starting with an interleague matchup with the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
Tickets are available for all games at www.ottawachampions.com.
