San Diego Wave FC News Release
San Diego Wave FC returns home this Saturday, Aug. 5, to close out their run in the UKG Challenge Cup against Angel City FC at Snapdragon Stadium. Kicking off at 4:30 p.m. PT, the match can be streamed live on Paramount+.
The Wave looks for a win this week following a 1-0 loss on Friday against the OL Reign in Seattle. The match was scoreless until the 70th minute when midfielder Bethany Balcer converted from the penalty spot for the Reign's game-winner.
Angel City is coming off of a 2-1 win over the Portland Thorns with both goals for Los Angeles coming from Savannah McCaskill. Goalkeeper Angelina Anderson made her professional debut for Angel City by making seven saves with one being a penalty kick save in the 84th minute to preserve the win.
The last time the two rivals met was at BMO Stadium on June 28, where the Wave fell to Angel City 2-1. San Diego went down early in the first half, conceding a goal in the second minute and another in the 18th minute. The Wave played without a goal until the 63rd minute when midfielder Danielle Colaprico scored a left-footed shot from the center of the box to put San Diego on the board, but they were unable to equalize and lost to the Southern California rivals.
