Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver BC - The Vancouver Giants are pleased to announce that Chad Scharff has been named as Assistant Coach of the hockey club. Scharff, a 22 year old native of Airdrie, AB., spent parts of five seasons with the Giants as a player from the 02-03 season to the 06-07 season. Recently, Scharff has been employed as a scout for the Giants in Central Alberta.
'This appointment is really about keeping the job within the Giants family,'comments Giants GM Scott Bonner. 'Chad's familiarity with the way that the Giants conduct business, both on and off the ice, as well as his keen knowledge of the game and his ability to convey that knowledge, were keys in making this decision.'
'We couldn't be happier in bringing Chad back home to Vancouver,' states Giants President Ron Toigo. 'Chad continues to be a consummate pro. Whether as a player, scout or now coach in our organization, Chad has always been straight forward in the execution of his job and we look forward to having Chad bring that to us in a coaching capacity.'
Head Coach Don Hay: 'Chad knows our routines, our systems and our culture, which made him a good fit and a worthy candidate. I look forward to Chad's contributions behind the bench.'
The Vancouver Giants will open training camp on August 22, 2008, in Ladner BC.
