Chad Deering signs with Sidekicks

DALLAS - The Dallas Sidekicks signed midfielder Chad Deering Wednesday.

While this is Deering's first indoor contract, he spent the last six seasons playing for the Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer. Deering, a Plano native, played 147 games with 132 starts for the Burn, recording 13 goals and 30 assists. He earned MLS All-Star nods in 2001 and 2002.

Deering had 18 Caps for the U.S. National Team from 1993-2000 and was part of the U.S. World Cup Team in France 1998. Before being allocated to the Dallas Burn in 1998, he played for VFL Wolfsburg of the German Bundesliga and FC Schalke 04, also in Germany. He spent two seasons at Indiana University before leaving for Germany at age 20 in 1991.

"I have been watching Chad's career for many years," says Sidekicks Head Coach Tatu. "He will bring leadership to the table. The effort that he puts in on the field shows 100-percent commitment to the club. We are very glad to be able to sign a former United States National Team caliber player. He is a quality individual, who we are happy to have the opportunity to bring into our organization."

The Sidekicks (13-9) hold a two-game lead on the San Diego Sockers (10-10) in the MISL Western Division. Dallas hosts the Sockers Saturday January 31 at Reunion Arena at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on KSKY 660 AM begins at 6:50 p.m.

MLS Highlights

2003 Season: Started 26 of 27 games played...recorded 2187 minutes...tallied seven points from one goal and five assists on the season...recorded six shots-on-goal and one block.

2002 Season: Played in 27 of 28 games on the year, starting 22...assisted on the game-winning goal @ CHI (6/15)...netted the game-tying goal in injury time @ CLB (5/25).

2001 Season: Started the final 25 games of the season after missing the first game of the year while serving a one-game suspension after receiving a red card in the final match of the 2000 season...named a starter in the 2001 MLS All-Star Game, playing 45 minutes...tallied his second goal of the year @ MIA (8/18)...assisted on the game-winning goal vs. NY/NJ (8/11).

2000 Season: Finished the season fifth on the team in scoring with 13 points and third in assists with nine...struck the game-winning goal in the 89th minute vs. San Jose in the regular season finale...missed both games vs. Miami (7/15 @ 7/19) while with the U.S. National team for World Cup qualifiers ...registered two assists in Dallas' 4-2 win over Chicago (3/18).

1999 Season: Finished the year second on the team in scoring with four goals and seven assists despite playing in only 25 games... registered the game-winning assist @ Kansas City (9/18)...scored one goal and added an assist vs. Chicago (8/22) ...scored one goal and added an assist vs. DC (6/16).

1998 Season: Despite playing in only 14 games, tied for fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and one assist for seven points... scored his first MLS goal and the game-winner @ Colorado (8/15)...started for the first time at sweeper vs. New England (7/18) and registered his first MLS assist...started his first game for the Burn, playing 63 minutes @ Kansas City (7/11)...made his Burn debut, playing the final 31 minutes vs. Chicago (7/4).

Other Career Highlights
