Fayetteville Marksmen News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, NC--- The Cape Fear FireAntz of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (ACHL) made a blockbuster trade early Sunday morning. Defenseman Mike Fournier was sent to Winston-Salem in exchange for Chris Cerrella.
The trade is the second in two weeks between the archrivals. The first sent Kristoffer Lidbrandt to the Parrots in exchange for Randy Drohan, who has yet to report to the FireAntz.
Cerrella will bring with him 55 points (27G, 28A), good for eighth in the ACHL. The North Massapequa, N.Y. native is also third in the league in goals. He trails leader Kevin Swider of Knoxville by only three goals.
Cerrella brings with him seven power play goals on the season, making him the FireAntz leader in that category. The 5-11 200 pounder, should add a much needed boost to the second worst power play in the ACHL.
Leaving the FireAntz is Mike Fournier. Fournier appeared in all 47 of the FireAntz games this season. The defenseman had 15 points (3G, 12A) and 166 penalty minutes.
"Mike is a first class kid," said FireAntz Head Coach Bryan Wells, "It was not easy trading a kid who came to play hard every night. This is the toughest part of my job, but in order to get something you have to give up something. I feel we are really getting a good player in this deal."
This is the second time Cerrella has been traded this season. Back on Dec. 27 he was sent to Winston-Salem from Orlando. Cerrella is expected to be in uniform when the Antz take the ice versus the Macon Trax Feb. 17 at 7:35 p.m. at the Crown Coliseum.
