Ceremonies for 17th Home Opener at Isotopes Park Announced

The Albuquerque Isotopes will celebrate the 17th Home Opener in franchise history tomorrow, April 4, at 6:35 p.m. against the Salt Lake Bees.

The first 2,000 fans 16 and older to enter Isotopes Park will receive Isotopes Mittens courtesy of Gonstead Physical Medicine.

Throwing out a special first pitch will be Thomas Begay, a Navajo Code Talker who served during WWII among numerous other posts. He was selected as one of the 33 Navajo Code Talkers to be assigned to the renowned 5th Marine Division Signal Company and in the Radio Section of the H & S Company, 27th Marines.

The Navajo Code Talkers developed and used a secret coded Navajo language for radio communication in the Marine Corps battle campaign. During the Battle of Iwo Jima, Private First-Class Begay transmitted hundreds of secret messages over the radio network from H-Hour, February 19, 1945 to March 27, 1945.

Mayor Tim Keller will also be in attendance to throw out a ceremonial pitch.

After the introduction of both the Bees and Isotopes players and coaches, the Ambush Brass will perform the National Anthem. The Kirtland Air Force Base Honor Guard will present the colors.

Isotopes President Ken Young will also be in attendance for the Opening Night festivities and will be addressing the crowd.

Tickets are still available at the Isotopes Park Box Office or online at abqisotopes.com. Gates open tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. for the 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
