FRESNO, Calif. - The $3.4 million dollars in capital improvements pledged to Chukchansi Park by the Fresno Sports & Events LLC ownership group, now in their second season operating the Fresno Grizzlies, are taking shape in advance of opening day 2019 (Thursday, April 4, 7:05 p.m. first pitch). $1.3 million of that earmark went to construct the "Splash Park" presented by Community Medical Centers, making Chukchansi Park a family-focused destination like never before.

It's never too hot for a Grizzlies game. While that's always been true, with the first base side of Chukchansi Park always cloaked in shade at 7:05 p.m., the organization has also revolutionized the experience for younger fans by adding what will be "the most iconic kid's park in all of Minor League Baseball," according to Fresno Grizzlies Team President Derek Franks.

Indeed, the 1,500 square foot water park in right field will provide a respite from summer temperatures all season long, keeping kids and parents alike plenty entertained and cooled off at any home game. The Splash Park presented by Community Medical Centers is also at no extra charge to Grizzlies fans, open to all fans during any home game.

The Splash Park will also include a dry play area and shade structures, including an eight-foot grizzly bear and a giant baseball glove for kids to climb on (see attached images). The entire area is scheduled to open in full during the Grizzlies' second homestand of the 2019 season, seven games from April 16-22.

"Everything we've had over the years that was kid-friendly was either temporary or pop-up in nature, so we feel like as a family venue, as a place where you are going to come out and have a great time with your kids, that was something really missing from the ballpark," said Franks. "Plus the entire area will be protected by netting; any long home runs by a lefty will hit or land on a net overhead, so families can simply enjoy the area and the game without worrying, or looking over their shoulder."

The average ticket price at Chukchansi Park remains the same entering the 2019 season. With tickets still beginning as low as $10, the Grizzlies have been able to strike the unique balance of offering a better experience without passing that cost along to fans.

The current lease at Chukchansi Park with Fresno Sports & Events LLC runs through the 2036 season, making the long-term atmosphere and fan experience during Fresno Grizzlies games priority number one.
