Moncton Wildcats News Release
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Central Scouting unveiled today its final prospect rankings. Ethan Gauthier of the Magog Cantonniers is ranked as the top prospect ahead of the 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft presented by Fenplast.
There are eight defensemen and ten forwards listed by the QMJHL's Central Scouting projected to hear their names called in the opening round. Tyler Peddle of Shattuck-Saint Mary's (2nd) and Vincent Collard of the Jonquière Élites (3rd) follow Gauthier at the top of the rankings.
Gauthier, a 5'10" and 167-pound center born in Phoenix, Arizona, plays much bigger than his stature suggests. He is a gifted playmaker and is very skilled around the net. Gauthier is the type of player that all coaches would love to have on their team. Solid on his skates, he plays the game with a lot of power and intensity.
As for Tyler Peddle, the 6-foot and 175-pound forward dominated his home province's Major Bantam ranks a season ago. The Nova Scotian has good size and above average skills. He especially excels in tight spaces, which makes him a constant threat when he has possession of the puck.
At 6'1'' and 180 pounds, Vincent Collard already has the makings of a solid two-way center at the next level. Collard is a well-rounded player who is very efficient on face-offs and who pays attention to every detail in his game. His hockey sense is above average and he is a very reliable 200-foot player. He plays a very mature game despite his young age.
The Central Scouting is comprised of several experienced scouts and is led by its new Director, Pierre Cholette. Appointed in August of 2020, he previously worked for the Quebec Remparts and the Victoriaville Tigres before accepting a part-time scouting role with the National Hockey League. The scouting department's mandate is to gather as much information as possible and provide the 18 teams with the tools necessary for the scouting process leading up to the annual QMJHL draft.
The 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft will be held virtually on June 25-26, 2021. The first round will be broadcasted live from the QMJHL's YouTube channel on June 25, while rounds 2-14 and the American Draft will be held the next day.
