Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Toronto, Ontario -- Two members of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings are among the top North American skaters eligible for the June National Hockey League Entry Draft, according to the latest Central Scouting rankings released this week.

17-year old defenceman Colby Robak of Gilbert Plains is ranked thirteenth while 18-year old left-winger Matt Calvert of Brandon has moved up to 24th.

Brandon's Fans' Choice for Player of the Year and the club's Hardest Working Player during the 2007-08 season, Calvert was ranked 45th at the mid term rankings in December. Robak meanwhile was ranked 8th midway through the season.

Robak scored six goals and 30 points in his second season with the Wheat Kings and capped off a successful season by helping to lead Team Canada to a gold medal at the recently completed World Under 18 Championships, that featured another Wheat King - 16 year old rookie Brayden Schenn.

As for Calvert, the former AAA Midget Wheat King scored 24 goals and 64 points in 72 games this past season.

This year's NHL draft will be held June 20th, 21st in Ottawa and by the looks of the latest rankings, the top three North American players to be chosen are from the Ontario Hockey League.

Steve Stamkos of the OHL's Sarnia Sting regained top spot while Zach Bogosian of Peterborough and Guelph's Drew Doughty round out the top three. Sitting fourth and fifth respectively are Kelowna Rockets defencemen Tyler Myers and Luke Schenn.

Robak was Brandon's 4th choice (77th overall) in the 2005 WHL bantam draft while Calvert was not chosen in the league's annual draft of bantam aged players.

The 2008 bantam draft is scheduled for Thursday, May 1st in Calgary. The Wheat Kings, who finished second in the WHL's Eastern Division this year with a 42-24-3-3 record, will have the thirteenth pick overall.
