June 27, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release

The Springfield Sliders had their four game winning streak snapped tonight by the Hannibal Cavemen as they fell 15-9, at Robin Roberts Stadium. After a scoreless first inning, Hannibal scored three runs off of Sliders' starter Brandon Shaw in the second, and another run in the third to take a 4-0 lead. The Sliders would get on the board in the bottom of the third, getting RBIs from 1B Matt Tellor and C Matt Stevens, with a third run scoring on a Hannibal error. The Cavemen would answer the Sliders' first runs with a five run outburst in Nick Capra's first of his three innings of relief work, and then another run in the fifth to go up 10-3. In the bottom of the fifth, Tellor would score on a wild pitch, and Stevens would score on an RBI triple by CF Ryan Aper, to cut the lead, temporarily, down to five. Hannibal scored two to make it 12-5 in the sixth, but again the Sliders would pull one back in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Tellor. Hannibal scored their final three runs in the seventh inning to make it 15-6, their largest lead of the night. The Sliders then scored two runs on another Hannibal error in the seventh inning to cut it to 15-8. In the ninth, the Sliders would pick up their final run of the night as David Kerian hit a pinch hit home run, his second of the year. Springfield will now be on the road for the next five games, starting tomorrow when they begin a two game series against the Quincy Gems. Tomorrow's game starts at 6:35 and will be broadcast on the Sliders' Ustream channel.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
