How Sweet It Is

June 27, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

The Dubois County Bombers clinched a berth in the Prospect League playoffs Wednesday night with an 8-4 win over the Terre Haute Rex at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind., that sealed the Western Division title and the right to host a playoff game August 7.

The Bombers have been atop the division - as well as the entire league - since Opening Day and entered Wednesday's action with a four-game lead over both Terre Haute and the Quincy Gems. The Bombers held the head-to-head tiebreaker with Quincy and needed only one win and one Terre Haute loss to clinch first in the division.

The win at home Wednesday night did both.

The Bombers improved to 19-7 and hold a four-game lead over Quincy and a five-game lead over both Terre Haute and Hannibal, and there are only four games left in the first half of the Prospect League's 60-game season.

The first-half winner of each division hosts the second-half winner in a playoff game held on August 7.

The winners of that game then play in a best-of-three series to determine the champion. Game 1 of that series is played at the team whose conference loses the All-Star Game (held July 11 in Springfield, Ill.); Games 2 and, if necessary, 3 are held at the team whose conference wins the All-Star Game.

To focus on the above information, however, is to overlook what the Bombers just accomplished. Going 19-7, maintaining first place in the division (let alone the entire Prospect League) throughout the entire season and being the first team to clinch a playoff berth is quite an accomplishment.

So continue coming to our home games (Next up: Danville, Friday, June 29, at 7:15) and supporting the Bombers.

But be sure to remember that the Bombers' season just extended at least one more home game.
