Cavalry name Langer new head coach, tryouts upcoming
August 11, 2004 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release
The Lone Star Cavalry announced last week that Scott Langer had been promoted to head coach replacing Trevor Converse.
Langer had been an assistant coach with the Cavalry under Converse, who left the organization to become the GM and head coach for the Central Texas Marshals.
Langer expressed great enthusiasm when learning of the promotion. "This is a great opportunity for me and the players," he said. "I'm looking forward to a great season with the Cavalry. We have a solid roster loaded with new talent, who head scout Mike Earhart and I helped recruit, and a stable of solid veterans who went through the wars of the Cavalry's inaugural season."
Langer also had kind words for Converse: "It's been a pleasure working with Trevor. He brought me into the organization and has been a terrific influence. I wish him the best of luck and look forward to seeing him across the bench for the Marshals."
Langer is a native of Islip, New York, and spent his junior hockey career with the Bismarck Bullets and the Bismarck Express of the America Frontier Hockey League. He was named to the AFHL All-Star Team as a defenseman during the 1994-95 season.
After concluding his playing career, Langer was the assistant coach for the Bismarck Bobcats of the America West Hockey League from 1997 through 2002. He then made the jump to the United States Hockey League where he was the assistant coach for the Chicago Steel during the 2002-03 season before coming to the Cavalry.
Langer is known as a keen evaluator of talent and a top recruiter in junior hockey. His tireless work ethic and commitment to his players are valuable assets to the Cavalry organization. He believes in communication, commitment by individuals to the team's goals, and discipline to achieve one's best both on and off the ice.
The Cavalry have finalized plans for their Dallas-Fort Worth open tryout camp. The camp will be on August 20-22 at the Dr. Pepper Star Center-Euless.
Check-in: time is from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
