Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
The Border Cats battled back from 5-0 and 6-4 deficits Friday night as they rallied to knock off the Duluth Huskies 11-6 at Subway Field. The Huskies scored five times in their first at-bat off Thunder Bay starter Ryan Atwood (Florida Gulf Coast University), but the Cats bounced back scoring a pair of runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. Jacob Rogers (Eastern New Mexico University) had a two-run single in the 2nd and Brad Burcroff (Northeastern University) drove in a couple of runs with a base hit in the 3rd. Trailing 6-4, the Cats erupted for six runs in the 6th inning, capped by a two-run home run from Jason Vosler (Northeastern University), his second of the season. Rogers led the Cats with three hits and three runs batted in. The Cats second straight win improved their record to 10-14 and Thunder Bay now leads Duluth three games to one in the 10-game season series for the Superior Cup.
Zach Thiac (Nicholls State University) had another outstanding outing out of the bullpen as he pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed just one run. The southpaw gave up four hits while striking out three as he upped his record to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 2.00. Bradley Horn (Murray State College) fired two scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts and Chris Kerwood (Arkansas State University) sealed the victory as he struck out the final batter during a scoreless 9th inning.
The Cats now hit the road for four games as they travel to Iowa on Saturday to open a two-game series against the Waterloo Bucks. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05pm ET. Jordan Church (Sam Houston State University) will get the start on the mound for Thunder Bay. The 6'7" righthander has appeared in three games and is 0-1 with a 6.75 earned run average.
