The Cats homered twice and Lee Gwaltney worked eight solid innings as the Cats defeated Wichita 9-3 in front of a record crowd of 12,457 fans on Friday night at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth.
Ed Montague got things going for the Cats in the opening inning as he smacked his first homer of the year into the right-field stands for a 1-0 Fort Worth lead.
The Cats added to their lead in the third on an RBI single by Charles Carter. Carter finished the game with two hits and two runs batted in.
Wichita pulled to within a run in the fourth on an RBI ground out by Stephen Pearson. But the Cats added three runs in the fourth inning on an run-scoring single by Cameron Blair and a two-run home by Brian Fryer, his fourth of the season, to make it 5-1.
They would score four more in the sixth off reliever David Cross on an error by the shortstop Kevin Hooper, a two-run single by John Allen and another run-scoring single by Carter.
The Wingnuts pushed across two more in the eighth off Cats' starter Lee Gwaltney. Gwaltney wound up allowing three runs, two earned on five hits in eight innings of work, his longest outing of the season en route to his sixth win.
