Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
Thad Markray threw a complete game as the Shreveport Sports downed the El Paso Diablos 4-1 on Friday night from Cohen Stadium.
Josh Kauten and Thad Markray dominated through the first three innings. Both tossed three shut-out frames, allowing just one hit.
The Sports threatened in the top of the fourth inning. Shreveport loaded up the bases with just one out against Josh Kauten. However, Kauten settled down and induced Adam Hale into an inning ending 3-2-3 double play, escaping the jam.
The El Paso Diablos scored the first run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brandon McConnell ripped an RBI double down the left field line, plating Bryon Smith for the 1-0 advantage.
The Sports took the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Ron Fenwick had a run-scoring single and Justin Humphries had an RBI double as Shreveport took a 2-1 advantage.
Shreveport extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the ninth inning. Bobby Bratton plated Richard Quihuis-Bell on a hard-hit double to left center. Deacon Burns came through the next at-bat, with a ground-rule double lined over the warning track seats in right field, scoring Bratton.
The attendance was 13,209 a new American Association and Diablos record!!
Thad Markray (6-3) is the winner, he threw all nine innings allowed just one run off of five hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
Josh Kauten (1-4) takes the loss. He threw eight innings allowing two runs off of seven hits with three walks and one strikeout.
The Diablos will take on Shreveport in the second game of their series on Saturday night at 7:05 PM. Adam Blackley will match up against Bert Snow. The game will be broadcast live on www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
