'Cats Stumble against Salem in 2-1 Loss
May 29, 2016 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Salem scored two unearned runs in the second inning and held Lynchburg to one run on three hits to claim a 2-1 contest at City Stadium on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The Hillcats went 0-15 against the Salem bullpen over the final five innings.
OFFENSES STALL
Lynchburg only posted three hits in the game, and both of Salem's runs were unearned in the contest.
Salem used a pair of base hits by Rafael Devers and Danny Mars to put two runners on in the second inning, and a fielding error by Claudio Bautista allowed both of them to score later in the frame. Nick Pasquale took the hard-luck loss. His six strikeouts fell one shy of a career high. He did not walk anyone and surrendered five hits in four frames. Matt Whitehouse tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Luke Eubank went the final two stanzas for Lynchburg with only hit conceded.
LEFT BEHIND
Lynchburg had some early chances and left the bases loaded twice in the first four innings. However, the Hillcats did not have a baserunner from the fifth inning on, going 0-15 against the combination of Yankory Pimentel and Taylor Grover out of the Red Sox bullpen. Pimentel (3-1) earned the win, and Grover logged his third save of the year.
The Hillcats' lone run came against lefty starter Daniel McGrath in the third. Greg Allen and Mark Mathias opened the frame with line-drive singles to left. Anthony Santander hit a sacrifice fly to left to bring home Allen, but Lynchburg failed to tally another for the rest of the day.
SHORT HOPS
Lynchburg avoided a shutout with the third-inning run...The 'Cats remain the only team to have scored in every game this season.
