The Edmonton Cracker-Cats scored 3 runs with 2 away in the fifth inning to notch a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the season opener at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta on Thursday night.

Cats center-fielder Aharon Eggleston nailed a Brandon Culp fastball off the center-field wall to drive in two runs and shortstop Stubby Clapp shot a double into right-field to score Eggleston. The hit gave the Cats a 3-2 lead on their way to victory.

Fargo-Moorhead right-hander Brandon Culp, who recorded a 14-0 season with the RedHawks in 2005, pitched the opening five innings to take the loss. Edmonton starter Reggie Rivard went 61/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on six hits, striking out 3 batters to post the opening night victory. Fargo center-fielder Joe Mathis reached base in his first two at bats, with a single in the first inning and a double in the third. He came around to score both times, accounting for the only two RedHawks' runs.

Edmonton right-hander JP Fauske faced four hitters in the ninth, walking one with two outs before striking out catcher Allen Mottram to end the game and record the save.

The series resumes Friday, May 19th at 7:05pm with right-hander Brett Lawson taking the hill for Edmonton, while Josh Stevens, also a right-hander, will go for the RedHawks. Following Friday, there will be two more games between Edmonton and Fargo-Moorhead; Saturday at 7:05pm again, and then a 1:35pm matinee on Sunday.
