Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - With the 2006 season set to open tonight at 7:05 (CST) in Edmonton, Alberta, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have finalized their Opening Day roster which includes 12 returning members from a 2005 squad that reached the Northern League Championship Series.

Just days before Opening Day rosters were due to the league office, manager Doug Simunic made some last minute moves. Simunic acquired RHP Mark Michael and RHP Brandon Harmsen from the Gary SouthShore RailCats and released C Shaun Ross and RHP Mick Lefort.

The RedHawks also assigned the contract of INF Ryan Priddy to Pensacola of the Independent American Association.

Michael, 25, was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a non-drafted free agent in 2003. Last year Michael split time between Lynchburg of the Carolina League, Hickory of the South Atlantic League, and Williamsport of the New York Penn League. Last season Harmsen struggled early, going 1-8 in 19 appearances for Tampa of the Florida State League. However, he turned things around after joining Charleston of the South Atlantic League. With Charleston he went 5-2 2ith a 2.87 ERA in 20 appearances.

Despite losing the entire middle-infield, the RedHawks return a strong core of players from last year's ballclub, including the entire outfield. The team also returns six of their 11 pitchers and two infielders.

Players returning from last season include: LHP Brian Adams, RHP Brandon Culp, RHP Todd George, RHP Brandon Goltz, RHP Brian Hewitt, LHP, Mike Peschel, INF Derek Dormanen, INF Ruban Salazar, OF Richard Austin, OF Eric Kofler, OF Brent Krause and OF Joe Mathis.
